Linekar is perhaps the most well known and bst remembered English player to play for FC Barcelona.

William Parsons
Barcelona played their first game in December 1899 and their lineup included the Englishman William Parsons who played in the side against a group of English ex pats who won a tight affair by one goal to nil. William was joined in the side by his Brother John and was one of the key founders of the club.

Jack Greenwell

This on-off attempt to sign the Arsenal midfielder has been going on for the last few years. Arsenal arguably should have sold him last summer as cashed in. Selling him right now might mean a reduced price for Arsenal. Will Faregas even get into the Barcelona 1st team?

It really has been quite a season for FC Barcelona and Saturday saw the Catalans successfully their title to collect the cup in front of their hoem fans, in the Nou Camp. The season is not over though for Messi and Co, with the Champions League final to come in 2 weeks time.

Barcelona and Manchester United met 2 years ago and Barca managed to lift the cup. Man Utd are on form though this season and they will be very tough to break down. The game could come down to how Messi and Rooney play for their respective sides. These two players will be key in this game and do not be surprised if the winning goal comes from one of these 2 players.

With the football season in Spain about to take a greak for a few months, a quick mention of 2 activities which our friends at Barcelona Adventure have now introduced:

My 3 Favourite attractions in Barcelona

When asked what my three favourite tourist attractions in Barcelona are, I really had to sit down and think about it. There is so much to do and see in Barcelona that choosing just 3 of the attractions is a really tough task. After much deliberation, I came up with the following:

Sagrada Familia - The thing that I love most about this awe inspiring temple is the fact that every time I visit something has changed. The reason for this is that, although building work commenced here in 1882, there is still a long way to go until it is complete. Initially the building was designed by the famous Spanish architect Gaudi and evokes differing reactions amongst people. For me though I marvel in its quality.

The Spanish Village - The reason I have included this in my favourite three attractions in Barcelona is that it does exactly what it says on the tin. It is quintessentially Spanish. It is an easy way to experience architectural styles and designs from across the country. I love Spain, and being in this village amongst the different quarters makes me feel right in the midst of Spanish culture.

Picasso Museum - Picasso is one of the most celebrated artists to come out of Spain and this museum is an absolute feast of his finest work. I had to include this as it is the only place in the world where you can experience Picasso’s work in chronological order and observe how his logic and style changed over the years.

Tumultuous times for FC Barcelona

It has been an up and down few weeks for FC Barcelona with records being broken, a game lost, drawn and a win. One expects though that Barca will come out winning a few cups come seasons end but there are a few barriers nevertheless.

Arsenal are the hurdle for the Catalans in two weeks time, with Arsenal having won the home game of their Champions League meeting. Most will fancy Barcelona still to qualify for the next round but a draw for Arsenal would see Arsenal going through.

Having broke the record for number of games won in a row in La Liga (new recod 16 wins) Barca took their foot off the peddle a little in their next La Liga game and could onluy manage a draw v Sporting Gijon (only a win is good by Barca's standards :)

On November 29, Barcelona and Real Madrid will once again clash in a match, that sports fans know as El Clasico. A showdown of this magnitude is always exciting to watch, and this month's match is expected to be no different.

The match has already made headlines with Real Madrid's coach Jose Mourinho being banished to the stands during his team's last match against Sporting Gijon last week. As a result, Barcelona's assistant coach Tito Vilanova has already verbally slammed the Real Madrid coach criticising his lack of professionalism.

He also said that Real Madrid had not been playing at their best in recent weeks, but it would be a mistake to underestimate them. Vilanova also criticised how much Real Madrid had spent on players over the past few months, but that had failed to invigorate their viewer ship.

While it may seem cocky to mock Real Madrid's recent misfortune, El Clasico has a habit of bringing tensions to the surface for both teams. Alternatively, you can climb Catalonia's famous mountain – Muntanya de Montserrat, the region's famous 'serrated mountain'. Also located on the mountain is a 12th century Benedictine Abbey, which houses the Santa Marie de Montserrat, a famous statue of a black Virgin Mary and child. It was a great summer with the World Cup victory and celebrations in all parts of Spain (including the Catalan areas). Everyone came together and celebrated and what a summer. It is great though to be back to La Liga and enjoying the weekly matches.

Barcelona started their campaign on Sunday away to Sporting Santander and some delightful touches and football resulted in a classic performance by Barcelona and a well deserved 3-0 away win. FC Barcelona.

No big surprise to anyone - Fabregas of Arsenal is the big target and as a player who was developed as a youngster by Barca, many see it as his return to his true home. Fabregas also himself seems keen now to move back to Spain and it'll be hard to stop him. Do not expect Arsenal to let him go for anything less than £40 million though as Arsenal will try and get every penny they can.

This is a big big game and for me I prefer the Barcelona derby at the Olympic Stadium as opposed to at the Nou Camp. Bar hopping tour - there are several groups who organise this kind of event and it is a great chance to meet others and to get to know the best city bars.
City bicycle tour - Seeing Barcelona as part of a bicycle tour is a classic way to see the city. The tour is at a slow enough pace such that even beginner cyclists can pretty much keep up.
Wine and dine cruise - Normally taking place in the evenings, this type of cruise makes a great combo when it comes to food and drink.

There are several companies in Barcelona who organise these types of tours. Barcelona Adventure are one of the leading companies and perhaps a good starting point.

It has certainly been colder than usual here in Barcelona and there has been snow on the mountains outside of Barcelona and Andorra certainly has had soem good skiing in the last few weeks.

Here in Barcelona it has pretty much been business as usual in terms of football. I mention this because many enquiries have come in from Germany, Holland and the UK asking and that's understandable considering the snow falls around Europe.

The secret is out in the last few days as my Catalan friends have found out that in addition to FC Barcelona, I am also a big Paris St Germain. I spent a lot of time in Paris in my younger days and as a football fan I spent many a day going to Paris St Germain games. (Make sure by the way to stay with my friends from Paris apartments if you go there anytime).

PSG are they are known in short are no match for FC Barcelona but when in Paris i try and catch a game whenever I can. If Barcelona were ever to meet PSG then it is a tough choice.

I think you have to agree that it was a strange start to the La Liga season with both Barcelona and Real Madrid both losing. FC Barcelona in fact did not just lose but they lost to on of the real minnows of La Liga, Numancia, losing 1-0 away from home.

The last home game was a little bit disapointing on Sunday as I was hoping for a strong last game so that at least we'd have something to shout about. After going 2-0 I thought we were going to score 5 or 6 again like in the last game but Mallorca came back real well.

Mallorca are fighting for a UEFA place for next season so they had a lot to play for and they certainly steped it up another level in the last 30 minutes of the game. A good 3-2 away win for Mallorca. Ronaldinho, Eto'o and several others probably played their last game at the Nou Camp last Sunday, with these players likely to move to new clubs in the summer. We'll see.

There are only a few months to go in La Liga but there is still plenty to play for with Barcelona and Real Madrid but dropping points lately in la LOga. Real Madrid went 7 points clear only for that to go down to 3 and back up to the present 5 point lead.

Real Madrid still get to play Barcelona at home and that game will be vital in the fight for the 2007-2008 La Liga title. Eto'o is also back now for Barcelona from the African Nations Cup so Barcelona are bakc to full strength although their defenc still coninues to be a problem.

Latest news and rumours is that Mourinho will be the next Barcelona manager, from the summer of 2008 but that remains to be seen.

I went to yesterday's away game full of hope for Barcelona but the game against Athletico Madrid ended up as one, one draw. Athletico are a good side in their own right and they themselves are challenging for one of the Champions Leagues positions in La Liga, thus they were always going to bve tough opponents.

In my view, Barcelona are really really missing Eto'o which is missing several games due to his participation in the African Cup. Barcelona really need Eto'o back and these dropped 2 points make it difficult for Barcelona in La Liga, with Real Madrid having now set a 9 point lead in La Liga.

All is not lost for FC Barcelona because they still have to play Real Madrid in Madrid and a win could get Barca back on target. Barcelona are also still in the Champions League and Spanish Cup, thus there is plenty to play for.
